Catharine Street Community Center (CSCC) was established in 1922 and incorporated April 1942, in Poughkeepsie, New York. With its commitment to the preservation and enrichment of families and children, CSCC attributes much of its beginnings to the significant contribution and support received from the Poughkeepsie Neighborhood Women’s Club and the YWCA of Dutchess County.

From its beginning nearly 100 years ago, CSCC gained a reputation for its caring and concern for children and families. Continuing today, the Center assists individuals, children and families with the tools necessary to cope with challenging economic and social needs.

CSCC’s programs include:

  • Pre-school for children ages 3 – 5 years old who are preparing for a successful start in school.
  • After School & Summer Enrichment Programs for Kindergarten – 5th grades: safe, well supervised (staff/child ratio of 1-8) with research-based learning circles that focus on basic and life-skills-building activities for children and families.

Our programs benefit from the assistance of mentors and tutors, comprised of college interns and community volunteers. Thanks to fundraising and your donations, CSCC is able to offer the most affordable childcare fees in Dutchess County: inclusive of transportation from local schools, a nutritious snack/meal that is USDA subsidized, field trips, supplies and materials.

Scholarships are made to families as resources are available – 93% of the children participating in our programs are receiving partial or full scholarships

CSCC excels as a community asset due to the strong leadership of its Board of Directors (hyperlink to list) and the daily management of Executive Director Shirley A. Adams (hyperlink to new bio), along with a highly qualified, professional and diverse staff (hyperlink to staff).

CSCC has formal partnerships and collaborations with more than 70 local schools, health and human services organizations, making it possible to facilitate access to critical services for the at-risk and needy residents of Dutchess County.
