MLK Breakfast

About the MLK Breakfast

The 1st. Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast celebration was held in January 1992 at Catharine Street Community Center (CSCC). The then Board President John E. Byrd shared with the 50 guests his vision that the MLK Breakfast Celebration would become an annual event.

Over the years, the CSCC’s MLK Breakfast grew into the largest  most diverse and inclusive annual celebration in the Mid-Hudson Region.  In 2011, the 20th. Anniversary, welcomed more than 600 guests along with Guest Speaker Bill Toles, musician, producer, sound designer, filmmaker and son of the former executive director of CSCC, William Toles, Jr. (1952-1962).

The growing popularity of the Breakfast can be attributed to its highly acclaimed guest speakers, community honorees, scholarships awards to college bound high school students with musical presentations by local choirs, musicians and vocalists.

For more than 30 years, the Annual MLK Breakfast Celebration has fulfilled the vision of its founding board president as it continues to garner the support of businesses, faith-based, community & civic organizations, schools, colleges and local residents among others.
